The wind churns around the fountain in Leicester Square forcing me to turn up my shirt collar in a feeble attempt to keep warm. Are the twins just going to leave me here to catch my death? The wind is forcing me to plan my escape. I shuffle back and forth while keeping my eye out for a Hansom cab. I pull out my pocket watch and count off the minutes. If the brothers do not summon me back to the academy in another minute, I will find a cab.

The seconds tick by and I am still standing next to the fountain with my teeth chattering. Something grazes my cheek. Could it be water from the fountain? Then I feel the familiar coating of slime on my skin. I close my eyes and when I open them again, I am standing on the stage in the dining hall. Applause fills the room and then everyone rises to their feet. The twins and I receive a standing ovation. I look over at Wesley’s beaming face and smile. He has done what Headmaster Tahan could not—he has made me an academy star.
